Throughout February and March 2012 I enrolled a several week introduction to fly tying class at the Orvis store on 5th Ave. in New York City. Every Tues., after work, for (8?) weeks, me and about 5 other folks were instructed by the world renowned Rob Ceccarini, of Downtown Trout fame, in the art of fly tying. Flies we learned to tie: Griffith’s Gnat, Carey Special, Pheasant-tail nymph, March Brown Comparadun, Hare’s Ear nymph, Wooly Bugger, Elk Hair Caddis, Ants, Parachute Adams, and several salt water streamers. Rob was a fantastic instructor. Additionally, at one point, Rob invited guest instructors Paul and Gail Gallo to teach the Parachute Adams (Paul is a certified flycasting instructor in NYC). I highly recommend this course for anyone interested in starting out tying flies or improving upon their skills.
